What are Chemical Peels?
To provide the highest quality results from chemical peel treatments, Everest Medspa provides you with multiple effective options. Your individualized facial treatment with chemical solutions (such as salicylic, glycolic, trichloroacetic, and lactic acids) will give you more radiant skin and a softer, clearer complexion. At our Wayne and Havertown, PA offices, board-certified internal medicine physician and aesthetic expert Dr. Xiaobin Li and her skilled team offer chemical peel treatments that minimize skin abnormalities and imperfection. These include wrinkles, scars, fine lines, dry patches, hyperpigmentation problems, and more. Chemical peels clear away dead or damaged skin cells with a personalized treatment on the skin that causes the surface layer to peel off. When your skin recovers and starts to rejuvenate and repair itself, you will see a clearer, smoother complexion. A chemical peel treatment is a noninvasive option to make your skin bright and may be used for the neck and face.
Variations of Chemical Peels
In our Wayne and Havertown, PA offices, we perform chemical peels in several strengths (light, medium, and deep) to fit our patients' skin needs and goals.
Light peels: You can have a light peel on your lunch hour and go right back to your routine. This type of peel will remove the outer layer of your skin (the epidermis), giving your face a more radiant appearance and smoother texture. We typically recommend that you get a light peel around once a month for the best glowing results.
Medium-depth peels: This type of chemical peel reaches further into the skin, and you'll usually decide to do this type of facial treatment during an extended weekend. You may also need to ready yourself for more discomfort during and up to an hour following the chemical peel. Medium-depth peels are best for patients who have significant damage to their skin, including deeper lines and darker pigmentation problems.
Deep peels: The strongest of the three levels of chemical peels is the deep peel, and it does require the most recovery time. This is an aggressive cosmetic treatment that may leave your face itchy, swollen, and peeling for several weeks. Patients who receive a deep chemical peel will have age or dark spots, sun damage, entrenched acne scars, and deep-seated scars. Since this type of peel is typically uncomfortable for patients, we can provide you with an anesthetic before your procedure.

Reviews
Ideal Candidates
A one-on-one consultation with one of our aesthetic specialists is the first part of the journey to healthier, smoother, and younger-looking skin. A team member at Everest Medspa will evaluate your skin in an examination in our Wayne or Havertown, PA office before selecting a chemical peel treatment to achieve your ideal results. Chemical peel candidates will have visible problems in their skin, like scaly patches, hyperpigmentation, flaky skin, sun spots, fine lines, signs of aging, and more. We can recommend varying levels of chemical peels to meet your needs and aesthetic goals.
Procedure Technique
On the day of your procedure at Everest Medspa, we will have you lying down in a comfortable position to administer your peel. We will make sure the skin is cleaned prior to applying the personalized solution to the face, neck, or both. We will brush the solution onto your face and allow it to work for an appropriate amount of time, which will be discussed in your treatment planning session. Then, we will clean the solution off your face and put on a neutralizing agent. You are encouraged to bring light sunscreen or a hat to wear outside after the procedure to avoid environmental exposure.
What to Expect
Depending on the strength of the chemical peel you have, you should expect the face to peel and itch from several days to a couple of weeks. One of our team members will give instructions on methods to treat your face during your procedure. Please keep in mind that no matter how much your skin itches during the healing process, it is not a good idea to peel the skin off. You could cause scarring to your delicate skin!
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a chemical peel cost?
One of our team members will talk about your costs in your consultation after she has developed your chemical peel treatment plan. The cost of a chemical peel will vary depending on the formula you choose. Everest Medspa takes several payment methods, and you can ask about current specials on treatments like chemical peels. You may also consider buying a package of several chemical peel treatments.
What level should I choose for my chemical peel?
Which level of chemical peel is best for you will depend on your unique skin needs and cosmetic goals. In your consultation, we can help you select which peel is right for your skin. Some factors you may consider are your overall health, your skin type, how deep you want the peel to work, the time you can commit to recovery, and what concerns you have about the appearance of your skin. Initially, it's better to try a light chemical peel and decide how you like the results. From there, you and one of our team members may adjust your plan to find the best chemical peel level for your skin.
Should I get a chemical peel or dermabrasion treatment?
Dermabrasion and chemical peels are both facial rejuvenation procedures that address surface imperfections to make your skin a rejuvenated appearance. The major difference is that dermabrasion requires special tools (a shaving instrument or rotating brush) to clear away the surface skin layer with a careful scraping process. A chemical peel applies a caustic solution to your skin to dissolve dead skin cells. During your consultation, we will explain the pros and cons of each treatment and help you decide whether dermabrasion or a chemical peel is better to achieve your skin goals.
Will my face hurt after a chemical peel?
Based on the chemicals used, you may feel mild discomfort during the application process. If you get a light peel, you may notice some discomfort; however, it can be alleviated with a small fan. Medium and deep peels are good for deeper damage and give you longer-lasting results; however, they can be more uncomfortable. Topical anesthetics, medications, and soothing ointments may be used to help you feel more comfortable during your treatment. One of our team members will talk to you about post-treatment skin care to help your skin heal.
Can I combine a chemical peel with other treatments?
You may consider combining a chemical peel with another skin treatment at Everest Medspa. In your initial consultation, be honest with us about your skin and cosmetic issues so we can develop a comprehensive treatment plan to achieve your goals. These might include adding an injectable treatment for wrinkles (such as JUVÉDERM® or BOTOX®) along with your chemical peel to rejuvenate your entire appearance.
